Eli Peterson serves as controller at DonorsTrust, where he leads the full accounting cycle — from transaction level review to audit oversight — ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance. With focus on process improvement and streamlined workflows to support organizational growth, he also works with donors to provide clarity, trust, and care throughout their philanthropic journey. Eli came to DonorsTrust from the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), where he managed financials, oversaw internal HR processes, compliance filings, and IT services. Before ALEC, Eli worked in auditing with a Big Four and a regional accounting firm in Ohio during which time he obtained his CPA license. Originally from West Virginia, he attended Cedarville University, where he earned a B.A. in accounting. During undergraduate he gained his first exposure to the world of nonprofits when interning with Tax Foundation and State Budget Solutions in Washington, D.C. He lives in Northern Virginia, and when he is not busy documenting his life in spreadsheets, he is exploring the D.C. area or planning/completing trips with his wife Lacey.
